I am on wheat free diet, have been for last 3 years due to having anaphylactic reactions to taking wheat and having strenuous exercise in the following couple of hours. There is a difference between being on a wheat free diet and a gluten free diet and if you are on a wheat free diet for the same reason as me then you will have to watch this closely as most supermarkets and eating out places are not fully aware of this. Tesco do a range of wheat free products and although the bread is only edible if toasted the pasta is very good. I think it is a range called Free From. If you go to a particular supermarket for a weekly shop if you ask at the customer care desk for a list of wheat free products that they sell they will give you an up to date copy, but please still check ingredients as they change all the time. Look out for things you would not expect to contain wheat; sauces, gravy, etc. I am now allowed a small amount of wheat each day as long as I keep an eye on what I am doing for the next couple of hours. My consultant is now looking at different type of wheat to see if there is a possibility of identifying the actual grain type and thereby allowing a more varied diet. If you are in UK you can get the food you need on prescription from your doctor.

If you're in the Uk you can try Tesco's - they do wheat-free bread, pasta, cakes ,biscuits and pizza bases. However you are looking at spending about £1.50 for a (small) loaf. Boots do them but you may have to order them in advance.
These things are also available on prescription.
As an alternative you could try buying the wheat free flour ( Tesco's etc) and making your own bread and things. My son likes doing that ( and he's 15).
Aside from that you need to be looking at the ingredients on everything. You'll be stunned how much stuff that you'd never expect actually contains wheat, baked beans for example. Also, when it says flavouring be suspicious as very often wheat is used as a "carrier" for the flavour.
But it does get easier !

Yes I know, the costs are horrendous but apparently its the preparation involved that makes them so expensive. I'm sorry but I don't think you have a choice in this. In the Uk you can get some things on perscription - or used to.

Did the doctor tell you to do this? Are you a coeliac? Or is this just a diet fad thing?
